Andy Woods: The Apostasy Controversy

It’s one of the most controversial passages in the Bible. Yet few people even know about the controversy! II Thessalonians 2:3 introduces readers to the Antichrist and on the surface seems to reference a spiritual apostasy. It’s used by many people to prove that the Antichrist arrives on the scene before the rapture of the Church. The KJV translation translates the Greek word “apostasia” as “falling away.” Yet the 7 previous English translations translated that same Greek word as “departure.” How would that Scripture read if it said,” Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a “DEPARTURE first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition? Yes, this could be a clear proof-text for the pre-trib rapture!
